SANGETSWAR LAKE is a wonder of nature, a breathtaking lake..a lake mystery. Often known as Madhuri lake, this mystery lake ,actually pronounced as Sho-Nga=Tseir by locals, was originally pasturage of Shok-Tsen village turned into a lake due to an Earth Quake in 1971.

The Bum La Pass is located about 37 km away from Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, at the Indo-China border above 15,200 ft above sea level The road to Bum La Pass is also a historical route, the People’s Liberation Army of China invaded India during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. Here in Bum La Pass one of the fiercest battle took place in the 1962 Sino-Indian War.

It is often covered with heavy snow throughout the year. It is one of the most off-beat passes in the world and is also referred to as the pass from where Dalai Lama entered India escaping from Tibet.

The journey will itself become a feat to remember. Monumental desolation all around and the Namjang Chu flowing far below, a tiny slip of road snakes dizzily upwards; watched from afar it sometimes ends in the sky, sometimes dashes against the mountains. When you are convinced you have reached the end of the world, the road suddenly twists at the last moment to carry on undeterred, having evaded both mountain and sky. Shortly before reaching the Zemithang village, you stumble upon the huge whiteness of Gorsam Chorten, the largest monastery in the region. It dates back at least 7 centuries, local folklore puts it at more. The village is unique in itself-houses of stone rising from the slopes, with piles of firewood stocked in quaint little basements and attics, it seems a postcard from the Western world rather than a place near the Sino-Indian border.

Later return to Tawang by evening for night halt
